The Day of the wedding

Lympne castle is a truly unique wedding venue set on a hilltop location overlooking the Romney Marshes, offering stunning views on your wedding day. When you arrive at the venue this historic building is truly special, its original architecture creates a real fairytale setting which I fell in love with when I came to see the place in the Autumn, I really couldn’t wait to photography Katy and Dan’s wedding here and on the day of the wedding Lympne Castle looked even better dressed for the big day ahead. Katy and Dan wanted a wedding photographer from Kent with a unique style and booked me soon after meeting at one of the wedding shows in Maidstone the previous year.

I arrived at Lympne castle and made my way to the cottages where Katy and the girls were getting ready with hair and makeup. Katy and the bridesmaids where having a great time getting ready with a bottle or two of fizz, as I captured the morning the unsettled weather outside gave me some really great light to work with in the cottage and id hoped it would stay like it for the rest of the day.

Dan had now arrived at the castle and had plenty of time before the wedding ceremony to enjoy the morning with the Ushers so I made sure I broke off from Katy to spend some time with the guys as well. Guests had started to arrive and explore the grounds of the venue before heading inside for the ceremony so this made for some great candid opportunities.  Katy decide she wanted to put her dress on in the Castle which was a great move as the room and light made for some truly stunning shots. When guests were seated the registrar made the announcement for the ceremony to begin and asked everyone to be upstanding to greet the bridal party.

Wedding Ceremony

Dan was choked with emotion when he saw Katy walk the isle, you could see the love these guys shared as they held hands and complimented each other before the ceremony began. The ceremony was great fun to capture, after exchanging their vows the new Mr & Mrs Foale signed the register and finished the service an applaud from family and friends.

We headed outside for confetti and some group photos and I have to say some of the confetti shots are my favorites form the big day. It didn’t take me long to complete the group photos and while the weather was still good enough we headed off to take some couples photos in the courtyard and terrace of the Castle. The views here really are amazing and we made good use of them as we finished off with some stunning shots with the coastline as our backdrop. The guys had plenty of time before heading in for the wedding breakfast so this was a perfect time for me to capture some candid moments of guests enjoying the day.

Wedding Reception

It was now time for everyone to head into the main hall for the wedding breakfast. Sue the wedding coordinator at Lympmne Castle announced the guys into the room, cheering and applause greeted Katy and Dan as they made their way through the room to the top table.

Toast drinks and the wedding speeches began after the wedding breakfast desserts. First up was Katy’s Dad who gave a lovely speech before handing over to Dan and the Best men who stole the show with a hilarious mixture of old stories and some heartfelt messages.  A final toast closed formalities for the wedding breakfast and this now made a great time for us to head out for the popular twilight shots included in their wedding package while the band set up for the evening.

The drizzle and mist coming off the coast made a perfect addition to these shots and I knew the guys would love them once we had braved the weather. After another bout of great photos and some really nice banter we where done and headed back inside for the first dance and the party.

The band announced the 1st dance and gathered guests around the dance floor bringing the Bride and Groom to the dance floor to share their first dance together as husband and wife.

I had an amazing day capturing Katy and Dan’s wedding day and can't recommend this venue enough! the day ran like clockwork and is a reflection of how extremely well run it is by Sue Piddock and the team.

Here are some of my favorite photographs from a wedding a Lympne Castle, please feel free to get in touch if you’re looking for a wedding photographer to capture your own special day.
