The Day of the wedding

Celebrating your wedding day and the love you have for each other with your closest family and friends is such an awesome thing to be a part of as a wedding photographer but every now and then you witness an absolute belter of a day that you never forget..... John and Michelle’s wedding at Winters Barn was without a doubt one of those that will stick with me forever.

Winters Barn is one of my favorite places to photograph weddings, its run by one of the best wedding coordination teams applying attention to detail in everything they do as well as this its a venue that has acres of beautiful grounds and its iconic orchards to provide stunning photography.

I arrived at the venue a little earlier than planned so made a start photographing the grounds before the wedding guests started to arrive and after saying hello to Michelle and the bridesmaids it was time to make a start.  I always aim to photograph the day as unobtrusively as possible to capture the day for what I was, so as the girls had their hair and makeup done and the flower girls practiced the isle walk,  I went into stealth mode or sometimes referred to as ninja as the morning passed.  The girls were on time and soon putting their dresses on with some final adjustments to hair and jewelry.

After capturing dads reaction the the dress and making some time for bridal shots in the orchard i left Michelle and headed across to the ceremony room to see John and wait for the ceremony to begin.

The Registrar made the announcement for the ceremony to begin and as the guests where upstanding with cameras at the ready the bridal party made the walk through the double doors and down the isle towards John, closely followed by a stunning Michelle accompanied by her dad.

Wedding Ceremony

The ceremony was full of smiles, laughter and the odd tear from the groom, after exchanging vows John and Michelle made it official with a kiss under the applause of their close friends and family. The New Mr & Mrs Richardson signed the register and walked the isle one last time through a shower of confetti, leading guests to the lounge area and gardens for canopies, drinks and the group photos.  I think its really nice to include all of the guests at this point of the day so my first group photo always includes everyone, after a bit of marshalingand some banter we made our way through the list of photos.  The wedding breakfast wasn’t until 4pm so I took the guys off into the orchards for some romantic photos away from the crowds before heading back for candid shots as the day progressed.

Wedding Reception

Guests were ushered inside the barn for the wedding breakfast and speeches and asked to be upstanding for the entrance of the new Mr & Mrs Richardson.  A huge roar and applause greeted them as they made their way through the guests to the top table. After the desserts had been cleared and toast drinks filled it was time for the long awaited speeches. First up was Michelle’s Dad who made a heartfelt but funny speech about his daughter before handing over to John who had us all in fits of laughter before pouring his heart out to his new wife.  As the Best man stepped up and began to talk, he was interrupted a Delboy lookalike who came out of no where! barging into the barn spurting off all the comical one liners and banter from only fools and horses tv show. It was one of the funniest things I've witnessed as a wedding photographer, it was a really different twist on entertainment from a Magician for example. Well that was it the whole barn fell over each other laughing as Delboy made a beeline for particular individuals. Once Del had finished the best man resumed his speech and closed the formalities of the day with some words of wisdom for the married couple.

Evening guests started to arrive and congregate at the bar which has been extended and a new feature for 2017, guests where soon catching up with the day guests at the bar ready to celebrate the rest of the evening and 1st dance.

After cutting the wedding cake, everyone headed into the barn for the 1st dance, the DJ gathered guests around the dance floor and announced the father of the bride and Michelle to the dance floor, “Your never walk alone” played with guests joining in the main chorus lifting the roof off the place! next up was theBride and Groom, sharing a slow dance together before unexpectedly breaking into a 7 minute flash dance! we couldn't believe how great it was, friends cheered them on as the guys totally nailed a well rehearsed dance routine before finishing with a fist pump and a hi five! guests them joined them on the dance floor to get the party underway.  We finished the night with some stunning photographs as the light dropped behind the tress of Winters barns.

I had a great day shooting for John and Michelle . Here are some of my favorite photos from another great wedding at Winters Barn.

Thank you Mr & Mrs Richardson.
