The Day of the wedding
I had the pleasure of meeting Matt and Georgie last year at a wedding fair and from the moment we got talking we simply clicked! I’ve been looking forward to this wedding for some time now and knew after I’d heard all about the plans for the wedding over coffee that it was going to be an epic wedding.
When I arrived at Georgies mums house the place was a hive of activity with hair and makeup underway the only thing left to do was crack open the Champagne. As the hair and makeup was now underway I started to pin down the shots I wanted of the wedding dress and shoes before getting stuck into the candid shots. I like to capture the day as unobtrusively as possible so as Georgie and the bridesmaids had their hair and makeup done I found some nice angles to shoot from as the morning passed. The distinct aroma of perfume and hairspray filled the room accompanied by lots of laughter, which could be heard from the end of the driveway of the house.
The wedding ceremony was being held at the Holy Trinity Church in Folkestone and on arrival to the Church Matt was outside greeting guests and putting his buttonhole corsage in place. Matt was very relaxed and enjoying the moment with his family and friends as guests began to arrive and say hello.
It wasn’t long before the wedding cars arrived and Georgie took a couple of minutes with the girls to compose themselves before making the walk down the isle.
Matt was beaming from ear to ear as his best friend and wife to be began to walk the isle and as he turned around to make eye contact he couldn’t hold back the emotion on his face. When they were face to face you could see the excitement in their eyes, as they got ready to take their vows.
The ceremony was perfect with a few readings and a lot of funny moments, mostly from the vicar trying to get his words out. As formalities drew to a close the guys sealed the deal with a kiss and a blessing at the Alter.
The new Mr & Mrs Preston signed the register and walked the isle one last time to lead guests outside to the lawn for confetti before heading over to Port Lympne for the wedding reception.
Port Lympne Mansion is a stunning venue with plenty of great places for photo opportunities. I especially like the gardens as they have lots of different levels and features to create something a little different every time I shoot there. Arrival drinks and some magic by Chris Harding lead the way to group photos, when we had finished it was time to whip the guys off for some romantic photos away from the crowds.
The autumn weather was perfect to enjoy the surroundings and lovely views of the south coast from the terrace with a drink, this also makes a great spot to capture guests enjoying themselves while having a catch up. Wedding guests were soon ushered into the dinning room and asked to be upstanding to welcome the new Mr & Mrs Preston.
As they made their entrance to the wedding breakfast there was a roar of cheers, clapping and the odd bit of banter from friends. Speeches were split before the starters and dessert and first on the list was Georgies dad who made a funny but heartfelt speech about her younger years and her future with Matt, this was closely followed by Matts and then the Best men.
Evening guests started to arrive as the final toast drinks were raised and were soon mingling with the day guests at the bar ready to get the evening reception underway. The guys had the most epic of wedding cakes and this occasion it was a stack of various cheeses just waiting to be cut and served with fresh bread and crackers. The cutting of the cake was one of my favorite moments of the day as matt had underestimated just how tough it was going to be to cut! his expression in the image below says it all.
The cake was closely followed by the long awaited first dance. This is a favorite for me when I photography weddings and this one didn’t disappoint! The DJ gathered guests into the room and announced Matt and Georgie to the dance floor. The guys shared an amazing dance together and finished the dance with a shower of confetti as Matt lifted Georgie of her feet at the end of the dance. To finish off the most amazing day we headed out for 10 minutes to shoot a few awesome twilight shots which are till some of my favorites to date.
I had an amazing time capturing this wedding for such a cool couple, thank you Mr & Mrs Preston. Here are a handful of my favorite photos that tell Matt and Georgie’s story at Port Lympne Mansion. Please feel free to get in touch if you’re looking for a wedding photographer to capture your own wedding day.
