Seun and Chantel are the new married couple in town!
I’ve had the pleasure of getting to know these guys as guests at past weddings, Seun and Chantel came to me last year to see if I had availability to shoot their big day and as luck would have it I still had the date available. I was buzzing from the very start not only because I had got to know the guys well but also because they planned to hold a traditional African engagement ceremony, which I had never, heard of let alone had the chance to photograph.
The date was set and Consultations pinned down to cover the finer details of the day, as this was a church I’d never been to before I also made sure I attended the wedding rehearsal to be sure of parking options and to meet Penny the Church Vicar.
The Big day was now here, the Engagement ceremony and evening Reception where both to be held at the Holiday Inn, Ilford. Shortly after arriving and some brief introductions the ceremony began with traditional drumming, exchanging of gifts and a warm welcome from both families. Seun had made his entrance and greeted Chantels family explaining why Chantel was the girl for him and asking for their acceptance to marry her. In a touching ceremony it was now time for Chantel and 9 of her stunning friends to make an entrance to music all in full traditional dress. Full of colour and tradition the ceremony was a privilege to have experienced first hand.
Chantel had hired in Misdee, a professional hair and makeup artist and her team who I have to say did an amazing job and I think the photos will really show off her workmanship. (You can find her details via my recommended suppliers page). After a couple of hours of laughter and anticipation it was time to leave for the Church in Dagenham. Upon arrival the grounds were bursting with guests and close family some of which came from As far as Canada! The Church service was lovely and nearly outshone by the wild cheers of the crowd when Seun kissed his new wife and tied the knot.
The sun continued to shine so we had gorgeous weather for group shots, shooting the bridal party was a blast! and I’m so pleased with the results! After confetti bubbles and a few more photos I moved onto the romantic shots with just the happy couple with the awesome church grounds at my disposal.
The evening reception was hosted by Mc Timmy a true professional in the events industry and good friend of Seun and Chantels. Timmy introduced the wedding party to the reception with some great music, followed by the Bride & Groom. The evening reception was the cherry on the cake for such a great wedding with great speeches, Bouquet toss and a champagne toast to officially open the dance floor. Seun and Chantel quickly got changed into their evening dress and really got the party started with a traditional dollar dance surrounded by their close family and friends.
Here are a handful of my favourite shots that tell Seun & Chantels Story.
